Nose to Nose |

Nose to Nose is a memoir
about healing. Recovering from emergency
surgery in a foreign country, Barry Schieber finds
himself buying a puppy to bring back to Montana. He had
never thought of owning a dog, any dog - let alone one
that will soon tip the scales at over a hundred pounds.

Over the years I have had children and parents ask
for books with stories about "real" dogs -- similar
to titles written for children by James Herriot. It
was always difficult to find something to recommend.
After reading "A
Gift to Share" and "Nose
to Nose" I knew I could recommend both
as wonderful books for young readers about a "real"
dog. The story of Moritz will win the hearts of
readers young and old.

Nose to Nose is a touching, yet
unsentimental chronicle of Barry Schieber's
experience with his therapy dog, Moritz. Relating
his story with a graceful simplicity, he allows
readers to share moments of intimacy and healing
that occur during hospital visits, giving us a real
sense of what is involved in such work and why it is
so important. A delightful book!

In this wonderful journal, Schieber takes the reader
along on a glorious path of discovery, not only into
the hospital with his pal Moritz but also into his
own journey toward giving and receiving
unconditional love. A joy to read!

The most amazing quality of dogs is their ability to
heal and comfort us in times of need, whether you
are sick or lost in a storm. With the therapy dog,
you must let these resources flow undistorted and
allow the dog to have a relationship with others. It
seems simple, but what Barry is doing with Moritz is
no small thing.

I read

reading is therapeutic - thank you.
